Work-Related Sleep Disorders

I woke up in the middle of the night
to get a glass of water,
When I tried to get back to sleep,
all I could think about was
Political Party Press Releases,
Narrating my difficulties sleeping.

Though temporarily frustrating,
this proved more effective
than counting sheep.

An Open Letter to the Television Program LOST

Dear LOST,

I am writing to inform you that I am physically unable to wait for February for you to return to me. Without you, where will I find my daily dose of really crazy, inexplicably fucked up shit? (Seriouly, polar bears.. giant black smoke fists..what else do you call that?)

I am writing to inform you that you will be replaced as my main televised addiction by the mightly Scrubs as of November 30th, but and even though I do share a love for this program, there will be times when my frustration will shine through and fear not... I will curse the amount of days until you return safe and sound to that glowing box responsible for many a killed brain cells and future requirements of laser eye surgery.

I beg of you, please come back to us soon.

Sincerely,

Oh man, I need to get out more.

Abuse

So, funny story.

The other day at work, this guy who didn't have a ticket tried to use the bathroom. I told him he couldn't use it. After a few more shut down attempts to get in to the luxurious facilities that Empire Theatres provides the fourth floor of the Rideau Centre... he stormed off calling me a bitch, then he called me a "fucking jew".

It was a good start to my shift.

... and still I fail to see the connection between the Jews and not allowing someone to use the can.

oh well.

Rats!

What with the infestation on the terrace at the Rideau Centre, I thought it'd be appropriate to inform everyone that Flushed Away was a SPLENDID movie. It was, in fact, almost too cute! I almost want to rescue a few slugs and keep them as pets just for some occasional background music.

(This pic is from when Hugh Jackman realizes that wasn't rice he was cooking with... and the slugs are telling him what the rice really was. Again, so funny, and too cute.) Look at those cute little SLUGS!!!!!

More good news about movies. I found out Rideau's getting Borat on Friday. Which means that a) we're gonna have a screening for employees: (Flippin' SWEET!) and b) we're gonna be stupidly busy over the weekend, but it'll be well worth it!

BORAAAAAAATTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

a thought

A customer from the movie theatre today helped me move my ladder after his show was over. I told him it wasn't necessary, but he insisted.

I guess there still is a bit of good left in people.

Friday the 13th: A Different kind of spooky

So, I guess I've been blogging for over a year now, and I think I should get some sort of blogger-anniversary gift for using their free blog-service. Or maybe not.

Friday the 13th could have been cool this year, but instead I had to spend it at a baseball banquet with a bunch of people who spent most of the season ignoring me. Female MVP this year went to the girl with the most strike-outs. Sounds about right. And after the loud Dance Mix '96 CD was about half way through, right before the karaoke, but just at about the time when the party began to feel like an awkward family gathering with drunken older relatives, we left the hall with enough time to salvage a couple episodes of Scrubs Season 4, which came out to DVD a short while ago.

I re-organized my bedroom a while ago. There's surprisingly a lot more room than I would have figured in this tiny little place. Now the big question being raised is how I'm going to un-staple my posters off the wall to make them look good with the moved-furniture and whatnot.

I'm working like mad at the cinema lately and putting in my 6 hours of work from home with the University. Right about now, the only thing relatively exciting I've got going is the prospect of a good party on Halloween night. Costume came in the mail last week, so now I've just got to figure out ways to style my hair and find out when and where the next Star Trek convention's taking place. Awesome.

Well that's my update.

Sticky Buns

I can't believe it's already October. What the hell happened to the summer? It's getting cold, and I've got to say that I am definitely not looking forward to another Ottawa winter.
I turned down a kegger tonight to watch Annie Hall and When Harry Met Sally. I don't know if that's sad or not. It is what it is. Now I don't have to worry about whether or not the Ottawa Film Society allows us to screen their films for the cinema employers because it's the only one I really wanted to see that I hadn't already seen.
Work at the cinema was shit today. I left home in a bad mood because I couldn't find my keys and when I got to the mall, everyone there seemed a couple degrees more stupid than usual. Must be because it was Saturday. It seems to me though, that you don't leave your crying child at the bottom of the most busy escalator in the Rideau Centre because he's too much of a whoosie to get on the damn thing. ESPECIALLY not when there's a line up of dozens of people expecting to get on the damn thing. Some people really shouldn't procreate. This kid's parents are a prime example. Anyway, then I got harped on for still being bitter about this shitty gift I got at our cinema's secret Santa last Christmas. Well EXCUSE me if I thought that people there knew me a bit better than to stock up on shit they bought at the Dollar Store moments before the exchange. How thoughtful! I guess I know what to expect now and plan on not participating this year if we hold another Secret Santa.
Selfishness (Def'n): Manager tells you about a cool new movie poster that you'd be interested in. While overhearing the news about this poster, co-worker sneaks away from listening in and signs up as having dibbs on the poster as soon as it becomes available to bring home before you have the opportunity to because you're still in mid-conversation with the person telling you about it.
Really makes me think about why I'm still working there...
oh wait...
yeah, Jackass 2 was hillarious when I saw it yesterdayand ... yeah,I saw it for free.
and... the Last Kiss, which I saw 3 times so far.. Wouldn't have been able to do that if I didn't work here...
I guess that answers that question.
I put some pics up on my MSN spaces from when Paul Brown and Curtis came to visit a few weeks back. Paul's in Ottawa today and I'd invited him to that kegger, but alas, Woodly Allen and Billy Crystal won tonight. Here's a glimpse at the pictures I put up:
oh well, nevermind... looks like the photo uploading doesn't want to work tonight. Surprise surprise... freaking blogger.

Jack, Zach and Fox

Going to keep it simple this time around.

THE RACONTEURS were absolutely amazing last weekend. That and the proximity to Jack White has kept me alive all week, even during the most difficult hours of watching Harper win the election over and over again on old episodes of CBC's the National.

on that note... the new job is going well

ZACH BRAFF blew me away in The Last Kiss, a film I'll probably appreciate more in about 5 to 10 years when I actually go through the whole quarter-life crisis thing. Except for the loud-mouthed douchebags who didn't shut up throughout the entire movie (that's right, girls who were sitting behind me at the World Exchange at Friday's 4:00 showing.. I called you douchebags... I'm the one who couldn't take you so I had to change seats...douchebags!!!!)

Anyway, aside from that it was amazing. Everyone should see it! EVERYONE. E-ver-y-one....uh...Except maybe my parents.

ANYWAY. Trust the Man was good, minus the cheesy "boy wins back the girl x 2" formula. Nothing like seeing 2 relationship crisis movies to put you in a confident mood about the future! :P

ALSO, Paul and Curtis came up this weekend. Fabulous evening gentlemen, and a big thanks to all who came out. If I said anything at all that was either ridiculous or offensive, or a combination of the both, please write it off as "another one of Brie's drunken blunders"

Yesterday was a great day, which I've labeled as "OFFICIAL HANGOVER SLEEP-OFF DAY." Next time Curtis should remember to bring th IV so we don't have to worry about the headaches and sick roommates.

Sad to see this weekend wrap up.

Not busy enough?

So, I know I ususally spend most of my time on this thing complaining about how I'm always too busy to write, well, lately, I don't know why I've not been writing, because I've not been busy... AT ALL.. In fact, I'm kindof bored.

I suppose that'll go away soon because I officially start my new job on Monday as a Research Assistant at the University of Ottawa and tomorrow I'm taking a brief trip to Toronto to re-unite, at least, in the line of sight, with Jack White... lovely.

I had my first ride on a Harley the other day, and let me tell you, it was fun!! I wish I had some form of motorcycle... despite the lack of practicality.. especially in Ottawa, in its' half-a-year-of-winter-ness. But whatever, it was fun and very liberating.. despite the fact that I wasn't driving it, and it felt really good after two softball victories, following a not-so-impressive season altogether.

But the future brings forth good things, by the look of it, and soon, I'll be complaining about being too busy again soon, which, oddly enough, I seem to be looking forward to.

The blur that was August

So, last time I blogged, it was the beginning of August and I was glad to be rid of school finally. Now the days have gone passed in a blur because I've been attempting somewhat of a summer to make up for the fact that I'd been couped up inside a classroom or an office for the first three months of it. Here's a brief summary of what I've been up to not so much for those of you who read this and care, but moreso for myself, so that when the next couple months pass by, and I think to myself: "What the hell did I do in August?," I'll know.

Places I've been:

CAMPING

I went camping shortly after my last post, with my roomie, his sister's family and their friends. I don't really remember the name of the place where we went camping, Black Lake, maybe, but anyway, I do know it was good to get out of the city and get some serious outdoors-time in the middle of nowhere. Of course I was eaten alive by mosquitoes, but the hiking, swimming and campfires were well worth it.

I was pretty chilly by the looks of this pic. Anyway, that's us on the lake near our campsite.

WORK?!

I finished my contract with the government on the 17th and I was glad to be rid of it, to be quite honest. They had me doing the most tedious "work," I seriously considered gouging my eyes out as a means to get out of it. Then I remembered that the amount of money they were paying me was keeping me alive and out of debt, so I went to every shift, even though I felt a tiny piece of my soul leave me every day I went in. BUT ANYWAY.

LYNX GAMES

Mike and I went to a couple Ottawa Lynx games. After one of them, we stayed around for an attempt to break the record of most amount of people in one place to do The Twist for the longest amount of time. We didn't succeed, but it was fun twisting anyway.

http://club.minorleaguebaseball.com/app/news/article.jsp?ymd=20060818&content_id=119891&vkey=news_t501&fext=.jsp&sid=t501

I received good news shortly after that that Bachodude was coming to Ottawa to bring his sister to some job interviewy thing, and so when they were here, we took them to see another Lynx game in exchange for a ride back home to Niagara the following day.

SANDUSKY, OH

After being home for not even a couple days, Mike's fam and I took off to Ohio, for a couple days of fun, sun and... FREAKING AWESOME ROLLER COASTERS... Now, I HAVE been to Cedar Point before, several times so to be able to stay in the park for like, 4 days was pretty awesome, especially for a roller coaster enthusiast such as myself. First night we were there, Mike and I hit the park for a couple hours in the evening. We had Subway for dinner, which, for some reason, didn't taste as good in the States as it usually does here in Canada. Weird. Anyway, our hotel had a pool so, we went swimming that evening which, despite the bugs in the pool, was quite enjoyable.

The next day we hit the park... and meant business. First ride of the day for me was the Top Thrill Dragster. Though Mike did wait in line with me to go on, he didn't actually get on the ride. Alone in my cart, one of the ride operator's asked if I'd rather sit in the front row as there was an empty spot up there. Lucky day... or WHAT? WHO CARES? Front row of the Dragster was freakin AMAZING. The rest of the day we went about trying to hit as many rides as possible. Though Mike didn't go on the Dragster, I did manage to get him on Millenium Force, which is probably the best roller coaster EVER. We even got Mike's mum on a couple roller coasters, and she got us to go on one of those white water get soaked rides. Anyway, the whole day was a lot of fun and the park wasn't TOO busy. The next day was spent mostly at the water park, which was fun, b ut for some reason I couldn't really get into it that much. I think it's because when I'm at Cedar Point, my priorities rest on the track of a roller coaster, and not on the water slides. Who knows... after the park, we drove around Sandusky for a bit, found a movie theater, which we decided not to go to, and went to Best Buy to FINALLY get Animaniacs on DVD...

The last day we were there, we decided to hit the park once again, to do over the rides we really enjoyed and to basically get the most out of the park before we went back home. It was Good times, all around.

NIAGARA/BUFFALO

Being home is always fun. I caught up on a lot of season 4 Scrubs with Pam because I haven't seen most of that season, and she has them all on her PC. We made a mandatory trip to Buffalo to Casa di Pizza as it's our fave restaurant. Then we watched more and more Scrubs... Can't wait for that season to come out on DVD.

Anyway, when I was home we were lucky enough to get in touch with Rena, who offered us a ride back to Ottawa the following day and whom had many stories to tell about her own summer.

BACK TO OTTAWA

Tammy came up to Ottawa with us, and we did some of the touristy things that I'm rarely able to do in Ottawa on account of the fact that I'm always working. We hit up the museum of Civilisations, saw a special exhibit there and went to the Imax. We went to the movies and out for dinner. She tried Shawarma. Went to the War museum, saw the Parliament kitties, went to Lush, the market and Sparks St. for a couple days jam-packed with lot's o stuff to do. We also made Sangria one night with our delicious Niagara wine.

MOVIES

Over the past month, I've seen the following:

BeerFest with Mike, The Illusionist with Tammy, Little Miss Sunshine with Mike in St. Cts, where they no longer give refills on the larges... bastards...and... probably some more that I don't remember.... but whatever. I'm sick of typing now, and that pretty much sums up August... that and annoying softball games. But ladeeda... Welcome to September...

DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Holy Shit.

Today, (well, actually yesterday, I typed this up last night, but then blogger was down or not working or I was impatient or something... anyway...) I've finally completed my third year of university, and not a moment too soon. Any longer and I probably would have shot myself in the foot to get out of class.

Anyway, the folks are here for the weekend and the sis., so it's been good times. Went to St. Hubert for the first time ever to see Bon Cop Bad Cop, which was hillarious. Except the non-french boys might have had a bit of time understanding half the movie that wasn't subtitled. Guess they'll have to see it again when it's released in Ontario. Anyway, flick was awesome. I highly recommend it, more particularly if you share some understanding of the Quebec/Ontario squabbles. If you're from Ottawa, I'm definitely sure you know what it's all about.

Talladega Nights was pretty hillarious as well. Nothing like Anchorman's rank on the scale of hillarity, but still pretty good. Maybe if I had had the slightest interest in car racing, I migth have enjoyed it a bit more... However... Ali G did a pretty awesome job, and the trailers for upcoming flicks gave much to look forward to in the Fall and Winter and as such, I guess I'm tied to the cinema and my ticket-slaving for at least another little while.

Saw V for Vendetta again with the sis. today, and despite my extreme fatigue from a long day and the stress of handing in my last essay until next winter, it was still awesome! I can't get over that last fight scene, it blows my mind. Those brothers can make some pretty amazing computer generated ass-kicking.

Anyway, looking forward to a picnic during the day and a hopefully enjoyable and not burdensome baseball game tomorrow night. But most of all, enjoying the fact that I won't be back in class for at least another four months.

THANK YOU LORD BABY JESUS!!!

HAHAHA

SNOW PATROL

HEY PAM!

Check out what came in the mail today!!!

That was pretty quick! I'm impressed!!!

YAAAAAAAAAAY!

Whose Make-Up is it Anyway?

Men and Eyeliner. What is it about it about that that's sooooooo damn good?

Well, OK so following a discussion I had with Shannon the other day, I'm going to make the point of presenting how hot men with eyeliner are. Maybe we can hold a vote or a poll or something here... Which frontman's eyeliner looks better?

Brandon Flowers of The Killers

... or Ricky Wilson of Kaiser Chiefs?

How about any other suggestions?

Murphy's Law of Softball...'n stuff

What's the deal here? Last year, I could get on base, but my hits were these twirpy little dinky shots...

Now that my hits are getting stronger, people are catching the bastards and I'm getting out more frequently.

Maybe I should go back to the dinky hit strategy. . . but I don't remember how!!!

Freaking softball... the better you get, the harder it is to get on base.

Oh well.

13 Days left 'til the semester's over. Glad to be rid of it, except that I have an assload of work to do before then. What's this you say? Maybe you should be working instead of blogging Brie? Well, to that I respond with a nice big... shmeh.

Anyway, I'm hoping staring @ Mr. Wilson down here'll give me good enough dreams to write down in that psych study I'm undergoing, because I'm almost done it, and so far all I've dreamt about is work and Big Brother. Damnit.

Right, SOC presentation tomorrow afternoon, so should probably well rested.

Man, my life is lame.

Secrets

So the word's out. Looks like Jordania's moving out by end-August to pursue his own career goals somewheres up north. This means a few things.

1) I've got to decide whether or not I want to change bedrooms seeing as how Miltonia already claimed J's room when he leaves. I guess at this point it's about weighing out the pros and cons:

PROS

Just painted it the colour I wanted it
Can't hear anything, which makes for excellent sleeping
Supposedly the coolest room in the apt., come summer time
Nice and warm come the winter
Small room makes sure I avoid making excessive purchases that would take up space in said room.
All my shit's already here.
Nice big windows

CONS

it's freakin' small
smaller closet space
Not v. easy to manoeuvre
when it's messy, it looks that much more messy because it's so small
No room for electronics, save the computer.
Less wallspace for posters
Too close to the bathroom

GAH... I don't know, I'm torn.

OK, so school was relatively boring today. A guest speaker came and basically gave us a lesson in sex ed. concerning options available for women as far as family planning goes. How exciting.

Work was pretty boring too, now that I think about it. Trying to get to know the potential new-roomate candidate is relatively difficult given the manager/labourer relationship and the excessive sarcasm. I suppose a degree or adaptation is inevitable. Haven't lived with another girl since Elmo, so.. that should be interesting. Maybe I'm worrying too much. I mean hey, it's not like Katalin's moving back in here! hah! I suppose my history of housemate conflict has just made me very hestitant when facing change of this sort. But let's see how this plays out, shall we?

Anyhoot, the rents & Pam-dawg come home tomorrow, so here's wishing them a safe journey home!

Cottage

So, last weekend, Mike and I had the pleasure of taking a ride down to Perth on Sunday for a nice day by the lake. Mike's step-family have a cottage out there, right by the lake, with two boats and a bunch of tubes and waterskis and all that other good stuff, so it made for a most enjoyable day outside of the city. Everyone thought I was crazy for sitting out in the sun all the time but, seeing as how it was probably the only opportunity I was going to have to be in the sun, I really wanted to take advantage. AND, on the plus side, thanks to the wonders of sunscreen, I didn't get a burn!! Just sore shoulders from hanging on to those tubes for dear life.
Anyway, like I mentioned, it was exactly the kind of escape-from-the-city that I needed. It seems that next in line for that will be camping with Milton in August and then Cedar Point following that. GAH. I can't wait.

I'm counting down the days for this semester to be over, but there's still so much to be done before it is finished. This journal I have to keep for SOC is killing me. And I'm not getting any of my POL readings done, probably because I know the final is a take-home and thus there will not be a significant amount of studying involved.

Gah, fact is, I just want this term to be over so I can attempt to have something remotely relating a "normal" summer. I think Mom and Pam have the right idea, I should probably become a teacher so I can have summers off. Except, I might strangle the little buggers... so, probably not a good idea. Yeah. Safest bet.

Anyway, the blogger seems to be working better now, so I can show you what my The Last Kiss poster looks like. After that though, I'm getting my laundry and hitting the hay!!

(MAN... LOOK HOW HOT Dr. Acula is... )

Summer in the city

Man, I can't believe how busy I am this summer. When I'm not working @ FCAC, I'm @ Empire. When I'm not there, I'm at school, when I'm not at school, I'm with Mike.. when I'm not doing all that, I try to get some schoolwork done... and when all that's either done, or not getting done, or whatever... I'm watching hours upon hours of X-Files because, well... because I can.

The parents are still avoiding any contact with their only child still on the North American continent. But I have received confirmation that they are, in fact, still alive, and so that is a very good thing. :)

I've been listening to an assload of Snow Patrol lately, mainly because their song "Chocolate" is on the trailer & the teaser for The Last Kiss, for which I'm counting down the days. This will be THE movie for me. When Garden State came out, Zach was a nobody for me, so, that caught my attention. Then, the recent obsession with Scrubs adds to the anticipation for this new flick. Did I mention I've already hung the poster up, thanks to the most delightful boss-man, who knows me well enough to know that I want nothing more than a sexy Zach Braff on my wall, above my bed, where I can stare at him and dream of the bad things I could to do him, if I'd ever be given the chance... ur... what? maybe I'm going a bit too far with this. Must be the heat.

Speaking of the managers, I had a dream that suggested I was addicted to work. I don't really want to go into it, but, maybe those people at Ottawa U's dream lab will have a little something to say about it, when I hand in that dream report thing I've been filling out over the past couple of days.

Wow, hair dye is fun!! (I just dyed Miltonia's hair, & didn't do that bad of a job, I must say. ;)

Anyway, little sum up of what's been done lately:

My presentation for POL went well, I mean, nobody sitting in the class really wanted to be there, but I'm under the impression that I make the same bored expression when everyone else is presenting. Ah well, at least I got them up to stretch a bit, mid presentation. I can't believe some of the bitches in that class who think they're too goddamn important to follow the flow of standing up and stretching, because why? because, your rep is at stake? Why are people in Ottawa so uptight,?!? My SOC TA thought I was from the East Coast, she told me. She said she recognized her own. I told it was probably because I was destined to live there or something, but that, being as how I am from Niagara, I couldn't associate with her Eastern heritage and whatnot, even though I probably would have liked to. Anyway, she commented that people in Ottawa are all wound too tight, and I've got to agree, whole-heartedly. PEople around here need to extract the probes for a day or 2 and Re-freakin-LAX!!

Only now do I realize that there's something wrong with the website and that I can't change the font or add pics, and that pisses me off, because what if this post doesn't um... post? Oh well, I'm too tired, and it's too hot, for me to give a damn.

Catch-Up

OK so, here's a little something because I need to catch up for the lack of blogging that hasn't happened since my last post.

I finished my first summer semester and that was all good.

La Ronde was pretty cool. Despite all the warnings of rain, not a single drop fell while we were in good ol' Montreal. Though the roller coasters didn't really have that much on Cedar Point, this one new ride called "Goliath" is worthy of mention, because it was pretty much on par with some of the good rides I've tried @ CP. Also, the wooden one was really cool... but when you think about it, which wooden rollercoasters aren't cool?

Anyway, here's Goliath:

It was pretty awesome.

So second semester started out again, during which I had to do a bunch of interviews for CO-OP, which was crazy stressful. Turns out, I've been matched up to work with one of my former professors, Dr. Catherine Côté, in the Fall, on some research that she's been conducting. Should be interesting. This was confirmed today, so, I'm pretty pumped.

Last weekend, Mike and I went home to Niagara because his best friend just bought a house and they were having a housewarming party. That was all good. Drunken firemen in the pool and stolen bed-side tables make for a good party. Sunday, me n' the rents went to the Falls for to take dad out for a sortof be-lated Father's Day lunch. Don't know when I'll get to go home again, but we'll have to do that again for his birthday, which is also coming up...

Speaking of that... I have to work on Canada Day. How bunk is that? Ah well, I guess it was expected. Besides, there will be plenty of time to get drunk after 4:45 pm. I should be thankful Dave didn't schedule me for the night shift, cuz I'd have been PO'd something fierce.

Screening for Superman went well, despite the being way early in the morning, on Tuesday. The movie was really good too, except Kate Bosworth kindof sucks as Lois Lane. Teaser for Spider-Man looks pretty good too, especially considering TOPHER GRACE is going to be in it.

Sweeeeeeeeeeeet.

Anyhoo, gotsta get ready for work. Should be busy... working concession and training the newbie on the first night of Superman's release. UGH. That's a lot of popcorn.

Monday, June 12, 2006

So close, yet...

End of first summer semester is on Thursday. To celebrate, me n' the roomie have plans to go to La Ronde, in Montreal.

Here's what stands in the way between now and our trip on Saturday:

Today: Finish writing an essay, go to class, get a little something for Mike's mum's birthday, buy printer paper, have essay edited by wonderful parental units, make necessary changes, print essay.

Tuesday: Class, 10-1 (Hand in essay before 1pm or 5% is taken off) Work: 1:30 - 6:30. Also, must try to get some reading done for exams on Thursday. Also, cannot forget that ranking process for CO-OP job starts at noon on Tuesday.

Wednesday: Work: 9-2. Class: 2:30 - 5:30. (IF haven't ranked CO-OP jobs by now, am pretty much screwed) . . . Afterwards: Study ass off because

Thursday: EXAM # 1 @ 8:30 and EXAM # 2 @ 1 pm. Followed by a baseball game and some Much needed Local Heroes afterwards.

Friday: Make-up shift for what I'm missing @ FCAC on Thursday because of writing 2 freakin' exams in one day. Also, will likely have a shift at the theatre on Friday as well.

Then comes Saturday and good ol' Montreal... I wish I had more than one weekend to enjoy the time off, but alas, second semester starts next Monday... SO:

All this to say that... those roller coasters better be worth it, cuz I'm in need of some summer - this week is going to drive me MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD.

Some cheese with the wine...

NO...Time... to blog....

Man, summer school sucks a lot of ass. Well, not the classes themselves, but mainly the writing term papers while staring out the window into a a beautiful sunny day, and being trapped indoors, writing about human security and staring at a list of MSN contacts who are all out enjoying their youth.

Good thing Nacho Libre's out next weekend. I could use a laugh.

Thoughts for today

Seems this past weekend has gone past like a blur. I guess that's what happens when you work all day Friday, Saturday night and Sunday morning and you spend the rest of your time watching Lost. (Shhh... don't say anything I'm still only watching the first season.)

Still maybe I'm just a little anxious about this coming weekend, what with Dina and Matt tying the knot. Man, is that scary news or what? I've only ever been to like, cousins' weddings or you know, people that I've always considered to be at a much older and higher level of their lives, but this.. this is Dina, she's YOUNGER than I am! This is crazy stuff... and I guess there's so much stuff to do before the big day, that I hope my little mini-freakout over here isn't happening to Dina either.

Man, weddings. Crazy stuff

Anyway, first day back at the FCAC tomorrow. The crazy life of having 2 part-time jobs and a full-courseloan recommences. Good thing the sun doesn't set at 4 pm anymore like it did back when I tried to pull this off first time around back from Sept - Dec.

I guess you gotta do what you gotta do...

Bitter

Why do people, that haven't spoken to you or e-mailed you in ages, only try to communicate with you, by means of mass e-mail, when they're bragging about something?
I mean, it's great that you're having the most amazing time of your life, but...
why can't I ever get a mass e-mail saying:
"Man, the other night I got so drunk that somehow I ended up at this woman's house who drugged me and beat the shit out of me. When I woke up, I was in the drunk tank and my wallet and car keys were missing. It was the worst day of my life...
Oh, and by the way, I hope you're all having a wonderful summer and that everything is going well for each and every one of you (even though I probably can't remember half of your names.)"
All I'm saying is that, it's great that you're all having a good time, but what would be even better than sending an impersonal mass e-mail about it, is taking the time to at least acknowledge the individual's existence on occasions that aren't worthy of bragging rights.

May

So, I guess I haven't posted anything here in a while, and it's probably because I feel like nobody's reading it, because I am getting so little comments. It's funny how people always tell you they want to stay in touch, but when you provide them with the means, like, say, MSN, or a blog... you see that what people say doesn't mean squat.
But I'm not hear to write to those who aren't trying to keep in touch. I'm here to write for me, and if any one at all can stand to read it, then, well, then that's a good thing right?! Right.
I won't write much because I have to get up early-ish for class tomorrow. Summer school would be awesome if I didn't have to work in between, which I don't have to do for the next week, however.. when it does start up again, I'm sure I'll be much more stressed out than I am now. Not having to work is great. I kindof forgot how it feels to just sleep in or to spend an evening catching up on some quality tv or not-so-quality movies until way into the wee-early hours of the night. Bah well, I'll soak it up while it lasts.
Speaking of the wee-hours-of the night and not-so quality movies... we're having a screening at el theatro for Mission Impossible III. I can't freakin stand Tom Cruise, but it should be good times with the theatre folk, including some of the newbies that I so rarely work with... I'll post about what happens and spoil the ending for all those who actually want to see it, as I'll be seeing it a day before it's actual release. Ah, popcorn-bitch priviledges are grand.
Baseball scrimmaging begins this weekend... but I hear it's supposed to rain, so I guess we'll be practising our after-the-game drinking techniques if our scrimmage gets rained out. Either way, should be good times!
Season 3 of Scrubs comes out soon, and Series 2 of Little Britain... Man, this tv on dvd is addictive. The roomate left the X-Files, Season 1 out.. and I've been watching it like mad!! Even though I used to watch it religiously when it aired originally, I'm hooked on it as if I was back in grade school, spending Friday nights in, alone in the basement, becoming acquainted with paranormal phenomenon and government conspiracies and all that good stuff... Maybe I'm regressing...
that's probably a sign of work-related stress...
damnit.
I'm going to bed.

So many people need jobs, why do they keep getting offered to me?!

Seems I only ever have time to blog on Sundays. . .

What a week. Why can't I just have one thing on the go, ever? I was offered a summer job at the location where I'm currently doing my work term. Sure that's great. But, I kindof just wanted to take this summer easy and only go to school and work the theater. Maybe that doesn't sound ambitious enough. I had brought up the possibility of working @ the gvt. in the summer, but I honestly didn't expect them to have anything for me. Now all of a sudden, two weeks before I finish my work term, they want me back for the summer. I mean, it's a great place and the people are splendid, but.. there will be SO much time for 9-5 office jobs come the rest of my life. These are supposed to be the best years of my life.. and all I do with them is work. But then again, who can turn down a government job and no university-related debt? Any logical-minded student couldn't...

so what do I do?... work at BOTH places?... Have a full time course-load and two part time jobs... again????

and no summer?... or sunshine?, or fun?...

sounds like that's probably what I'll go for. Again.

And a root canal, to boot.

Oh the joys of life.

Birthday Move

The past few months have seen many angry blogs about living far away in Westboro. Let it be known that never again will I have to complain about the Clearview apt., as I know have officially returned downtown with the help of a few good friends, some beer, and a pretty damn good/exhausting weekend.

After work on Friday, I made friends with Mr. Clean for what was to be our last night out in the 'boro. I stayed up til about 1 am cleaning out the nasty-ass kitchen before I was able to get some sleep. Note that U-Haul sucks. We were supposed to get the truck at 8am but didn't end up with it 'til about 2:30. Good thing Maura was there, and not on the side of the highway, because her little Neon helped us out a great deal...

So a big shout out of thanks to everyone that came out to help, to those who said they would help even though they had better stuff to do, and to those who were going to help but then because the truck was late, were no longer able to.

I hope it wasn't too much of a hassle bringing all my shit into a new apartment building where there are no elevators. Sorry about your back Bond, I hope it didn't have too much to do with the couch in the hallway @ Mike's ...

The room is starting to look like a bedroom, and I think that as soon as it's all done up the way I would like it to be, I'll probably post some photos.

Also, a big thanks for all the birthday wishes from everyone. I'm glad BJ & Shannon were able to make it to ESM, but it was too bad you two had to leave early, because we had some pretty good times at Barrymore's afterwards. (Thanks for the drink, btw Shannycakes)

80s night was pretty awesome. Good friends, good drinks, and music from a decade wherein I was still wearing diapers.

All in all... a pretty awesome weekend well deserving of many thanks!

Here's to many more nights like yesterday, now that I don't live so DAMN far away from everything!!!

OCTranspo Zoo

I hate the bus.
Tonight, riding home, there were these two middle-aged couples on the bus, looking at all us young people like we were animals in a zoo.
"How fascinating, these poor creatures taking public transit. It must be horrific not being able to drive around in a Mercedes SUV like we do usually, but it's Friday, and we wanted to go out and paint the town red at our lively polka-night bar, drink two drinks and try to re-live our youth. Then when we're too tipsy to drive our expensive car home, we'll take the .. what do you call it? oh yes, the b..us home and stare at the creatures on it, as if they were from another planet. How nifty!"
God, what a week! As it turns out, I will in fact, be seeing Coldplay on St. Patrick's Day as originally planned. There was the possibility that I might go to Moncton with work that weekend, but instead, they asked my supervisor (who hadn't even asked to go) to take the trip instead. I mean, I'm not pissed, cuz it turns out I get to go to Coldplay, but it's good to know the real worth of an eager co-op student in the public service.
Also, I found out I can't go to Dina's bridal shower, which makes me feel like shit because I feel I should be part of all these plans and I should definitely be in attendance, but at the same time, it kindof makes me sad to know that everyone will be able to attend this except myself, and I can't help but feel a bit left out that there wasn't a time that could have accomodated everyone involved, including myself, like... on a weekend.. or at least a Friday, but I don't make the plans, so I get to sit here in Ottawa and think about the fun all the ladies together are having giving Dina fun household appliances and naugthy underpants and the likes...
I've had a stiff neck all day, making it physically impossible to turn my head past a certain point, which is incredibly inconvenient. It really fees stressed when I'm at the computer, so I'll probably keep this short. Besides, I have to be getting to bed because I intend to spend all day writing my essay about Hobbes, Lenin and the State tomorrow. Hopefully I won't get called into the theatre, where we now offer fresh vegetables in a dish as a combo... because that's what every person craves at a movie theater... broccoli...
Man, everything's just too ridiculous.
I feel like banging my head against hard objects to see if it helps make sense of anything..
... but it never does...

Oh Oscar, you never fail to disappoint...

Just a quick post, because I feel like I've been left high and dry by a man called Oscar.
I mean Crash?? Seriously? It was okay . . but I didn't even think it was nomination-worthy...
I'm fine with EVERYTHING else that happened, (way to go Reese, Rachel, Phillip & George,) I even dealt with the mediocrity of John Stewart's performance and the idiocy of Ben Stiller's appearance because I figured maybe this year, they might get it right. (and hey, even Zach Braff was there... granted he took the form of a computer-animated chicken, but still...)
But Crash?
Come on, I mean, you saw that movie right?
I knew the "Academy" and the country from which it stems wasn't ready for gay cowboys...
WHY DO I EVEN WATCH THESE DAMN AWARDS?!?!?!?!

My Friday night with barfy...

I always get into these moods during the day, when I think of something that would be amazing to put down in the blog, but then, by the end of the evening I'm so damn tired from working all day, or putting together a bookcase by myself, or freezing my ass off in the disgusting cold weather, or hanging out at a dingy bar with my drunk boyfriend and his drunken co-worers, that all these ideas just become forgotten bubbles floating around in my subconscious.
I'm hoping to spend all morning tomorrow in bed. Mike's leaving for four days, so that means I get the apartment to myself for the first time in probably two years for over one night. This is pretty exciting for me, but I'm sure it'll take me that long to clean this place up, so, at least I won't be bored or anything.
A good week, all in all. Started out at the NAC watching Scott and the OSO play beautiful music (Note to self Brie, think before you speak!) Tuesday was class, which I'm SO sick of, by now. Year-long classes are the WORST! Worked a double on Ash Wednesday and checked out St.Patrick's basilica in between. Place was crowded, and I was priviledged enough to sit next to the loudest moronic children in the place, but it's church right? So we gotta be nice to the useless young idiots, I guess...
Hmmmm....
Anyway, Mike's got me watching American Idol, but it won't last because I'm already bored by it. The only advantage is that it gives me something to talk about at work the next. That's not enough to keep me watching though.
Damn cable went out mid-Scrubs last week. I very nearly through the cable box out the window in a fit of rage... Mmmmmmmmm JD's doughy physique.... GAWD I love that show!!
And because this post has become random babbles, I urge everyone to listen to Alice Cooper's radio show because it's hillariously rock-tastic
Ooop... sounds like Mike's up barfing again.. I better tend to him. (Get me outta here!!!)
(What's with bosses??)

My trip down South(ern Ontario)

Well, it may not be Mexico, Florida or anywhere tropical... but it's still warmer than Ottawa, there's barely any snow on the ground and the bubble tea is of quite impressive quality!

Yes, it's good to be back in Welland.

I wrote the introduction to my essay today,

MY NEW POSTER

I see a white wall and I want to paint it... red?

Though I should probably be working on my modern thought essay, I discovered the following when I read up on painting one's room red, which is what I spent my afternoon doing. . .

Choosing a colour to paint your room:

Red - Bright and bold, red suggests vitality and aggressiveness. It can be a bit overwhelming for an entire room, but if you have a bedroom that you want to convey amorous vibes, it's a unique way to go. Deep, subtle shades of red such as burgundy and maroon are perfect for living rooms. At its worst, red is: too dramatic.

I guess even red paint at its worst is better than the colour I'd originally wanted to paint my room:

Black - You probably like heavy metal, S&M, or some combination thereof. Either way, it's way more than we want to know about you. So don't paint a room black. It'll freak people out. Black walls also tend to look dirty because dust shows up very clearly.

A combination of heavy metal and S&M ... yeah.. that's me allright...
We used to have this bedroom at my cottage that was painted black. It was absolutely the coolest room in the entire building. Man, I miss that cottage damnit. Like, the nasty, uncomfortable, yet totally awesome green couch in the master bedroom, the windows in there, the room where Minzer always used to hide under the bed and Pam would drag him out by his tail, the tiny room with the board games, rummoli, MAD magazines, rotary phone, only flushing the toilet after number 2s, and that freaking AWESOME black room. GAH, we should have kept those curtains...
... memories..
Regardless, the new room's looking pretty good as it is, red. Though there are some spots that look darker than others, and Mike and Milton are saying it's probably because we only put on two coats, and only one can of paint, but whatever... I think it looks awesome and so do they. It'll look especially good with my new Walk the Line poster hung up. (FINALLY)

That being said, I'm going home this weekend to see my daddy perform in the PCOS's rendition of 42nd Street. Any of Brie's back-home-blog-readers interested in tickets should let me know. I'll be going Saturday night, if anyone cares to join. :) It'll be a good trip back home, but a quick one, so that I can be back on time for work and to go the the orchestra! (How cultured am I?) Except that my accompaniment for the performance is worried I won't shut up through the entire performance thus embarassing him and his tremendously talented beau. (Thanks for the vote of confidence...)

Anyway, busy week ahead, so I'm going to try and make sense of Carl Schmitt's text here and hopefully pull off as well a grade as Thomas More got me... (not likely, but there's always hope!)
(Big HAPPY BIRTHDAY shout-out to Seanners who turned the big 22 yesterday. Hope all is well, even though I'm sure you don't read my blog)

Glimpses into the past/present

I often wonder what's become of people I used to know.
Have you ever just gone and checked out old friends' and acquaintances' MSN MySpaces in an attempt to have a brief glimpse into the lives of people who were once involved with your own? It's quite remarkable to see certain transitions. I wonder things like, why does she have a beard and sideburns? Why does she try to show those off so much? How come he got a tattoo? Why is he still jumping into oncoming traffic? They're still hanging out there?
Then you wonder if they're out there having a good time with their lives, and if they ever take a minute to think about you, or how you've influenced their lives, even if in the slightest way.
Most of the time, I don't think they do. I assume people are just too busy, self-involved or distracted. But that's just what I think.
I suppose there's a chance though. If I do it..someone else must.

Havarti

  • Swimming in the winter is awesome. Consequently, I also used to think that Jalapeno (pronouced a la TPB) Havarti cheese was also awesome, but now I'm having my doubts. Especially when attempted in sauce-form.
  • A big Happy birthday to Mike the man DiscoDawg and his long-lost birthday-affiliate; the Hungarian Hornet, Bachodude. (Apologies for the delate in blogfully representing this special day.)
  • Things are getting pretty desperate here. I'm d/ling Scrubs because I've watched all of my dvds. Life is tough, let me tell ya.
  • Also, what's with Valentine's day coming up? Damn you Hallmark!
  • AND I DIDN'T MENTION THIS PART YET :
  • The bro and sisinlaw are havin' a youngling.
  • Much rejoicing and a trip to Scotland ado!!!
  • SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!

  • Seriously though, Congrats guys! Brie sends much love and hugs!

Oh, and also. My goalie was tested positive for illegal performance enhancing (hair growing) drugs.

GO HABS GO!

Old

What the hell am I doing, already being a bridesmaid? Dina - I'm going to get you for making me feel all old and stuff. For what it's worth, at least she isn't making me wear seafoam green. (like that commercial.. remember? yeah... THOSE were the days) Anyway, check out the dress she's going to let me wear:

If it looks half as good on me as it does on this broad, then I'm all set!! :D

I guess this brings about a discussion on new beginnings. I officially live in two different apartments as of today. The hard part is going to be moving all my shit out of this one into the new one. I think this will bring some seriouly good changes to my time in Ottawa, because let's face it, my history, since I've moved to Ottawa, has not been built upon having great roomates. I mean, most of them were good, but everyone has their breaking point, I think. Everyone gets to the point where it's like, if you don't know someone well enough, and you're still living with them, the relationship has the possibility of going to ways: If you made the effort to get to know the person, you can build a friendship that could potentially last a long time. But this can't be entirely dependent on your actions, it has to be reciprocal. If, for example, your roomate doesn't make the attempt.. and say, gets drunk alone, has sex loud enough that you can hear it when you're trying to take a dump or makes you want to throw them off the balcony, OR, say, they, being deeply involved with another individual, ignore you, leave school, work in the chocolate business, get married and move away OR sicken you by the their general outlook on life, women, religion, politics and society, well then... the relationship doesn't have much chance of flouroshing. If, on the other hand, an effort is made - then potentially a lot of good can come from it. But again, it's not entirely dependent of one individual. I suppose this is the ridiculous nonsense I try to rationalize as I leave a big chunk of who I am in Ottawa behind and try for a totally new way of existence. Starting with the new job and now with the new apartment, I'm looking forward to what's to come. Even if it means going to school in the summer, at least I know I'll even have a couple new pals there to help out when the going gets tough and what not, and to share in common enjoyment of silly things, like Trailer Park Boys, or ... jokes about buying cookies and such. But now I'm just babbling.

I had lunch today at Baton Rouge, we took one of the ladies out who will shortly be taking off on maternity leave. It was a lot of fun. This new place is so much better than the last... the work is more satisfying (abeit still not totally connected to PoliSci), but the people there make me feel, and I know this is corny, like I'm actually part of a team. It's good to feel that way. One of the ladies I worked with even said she would for sure take me back if ever I wanted to do another work term with them. I mean, I've not even been there a month, and I'm busy as hell there, but it's just GOOD, you know? Except, it won't give me much time to work on my work term report... not like making ID cards did... in the middle of July, .. when everyone's gone on summer vacation... and I was enjoying the weather indoors, ALL SUMMER LONG!!! But that's in the past... let's get over it, shall we?

Happy birthday to Paul Okrutny tomorrow. I'll be working all day so I probably won't get the opportunity to say it to him. I hope Romeo Dallaire sends you a card or something, now that you two are best buddies.... wish I were best buddies with someone like Romeo Dallaire, but NO, I have to be best pals with a girl making me feel damn old lately, (doesn't this tie in nicely) but who, I'm sure, is going to be dancing on a cloud for the next year or so, even though she's driving me nuts asking me for all these measurements and deposits and wedding gifts and .... nah, I'm just kidding. LOFE DEEDEE.

Anyway, Brie goes to sleep now because she works a double tomorrow and gets the keys to her new place.

Everybody was kung-fu fighting... (and so forth) (MMMMMMmmmmmmm JD)

Does anybody read this?

Whipeout!

Let me tell you something . . . I am in LOVE with THIS man:

Ugh.. I've been watching so much Scrubs lately, I feel I should switch out of poli sci and into medicine... but I've never been good at science, and it's just flat out a silly idea to begin with, so I'll just stick to poli sci for the moment. . .

But what's so good about poli sci? I mean, who is there to look at in politics? (because that's what's important!!!) All the attention is focused on freakin Harper now, and he's not particularly pleasing to the eyes (albeit better than Martin was) and how HORRIBLE was it that he was sent to the (not private) hospital the other night for an "asthma attack." 1) Faking an illness shouldn't a priority for your political agenda and you probably shouldn't joke about shit like that. 2) Even if it was a real asthma attack, I mean, great. Our new prime minister is a sissy! Fantastic.

That being said, I'll now mention something completely off topic. The Rideau Canal was open yesterday for like, a couple hours on account of the fact that it had been cold for a bit, but now it's back up to like 5 degrees which is MENTAL, but also pretty fucking awesome!! Except that I didn't spend anytime outside today.. but yesterday... yesterday I went skating for the first time in 2 years because I was too lame to go last year. Anyway, After a hard time getting Mike's skates on (a former hockey player, eh?! pfft...) we skated for quite a while til we found a BeaverTails stand that was suprisingly still open at 11 pm, which is awesome. The whole event built up to this most ridiculous moment when I was racing Mike to get to the bench, and, in spite of our continual comments on how the canal was starting to thaw and there were patches that weren't quite skate-able on the ice, I got stuck in one of these sed spots and took the most amazing whipe out. I was quite impressed! Although I think my neck is paying for it today, it was still v. blog worthy.

And how I'm going to hop into my hideous green and yellow circus-like polo shirt and head down to the Rideau for some good ol' fashionned popcorn bitchin'. Too bad I lost my hat. No stress about that though, I'll just take my mind off of it by thinking about staring at this man...:

Oh yeah... that's what I'm talkin' bout!

Whole lotta nothin' going on...

It used to be that I would always have something to write about, but now I can't really think about anything,

I can tell you I was surpised to see a photo of Stephen Harper with a kitten today.

What was surprising, is that, he wasn't trying to eat it, you see...

Whatever. The new job is keeping me real busy. Every day while I'm working hard, they let me listen to music, whether it be CDs or the radio online. I've been listening to the Edge a lot. Radio stations in Ottawa re nothing compared to what we have back home. I guess little things like that are making me a little bit homesick, but, to be quite honest, I don't really have time to be homesick. It sucks because next week, I won't have Shannoon to e-mail me, so the days are probably going to pass a lot slower. Even though I'm a lot busy now than I was working for CRA, it still helps to be able to have some remote connection to a social life outside of work, when you're stuck within its walls.

I don't want to mention anything about my upcoming move for fear that it'll be jinxed like last time. GAH, for some reaons my internet is so slow tonight, and it's making me want to shit my pants, so this is where I leave, good fols, with a hope that soon I'll have enough time to sit down and write something that has some value.

Nothing to complain about

I don't know why I haven't had anything to blog about lately. Something must be wrong with me. I mean, normally I can find something to complain about. . . ANYTHING. . .

like, bad dreams about weird butterfly-like insects ripping off the flesh of my forehead,

or at LEAST the weather, but last week the weather was great... not like tonight where I was forewarned by the weather network that I'd be walking home this evening with ICE PELLETS falling on my head. Gee, that was comfortable.

Maybe it's the 3 hour Tuesday lecture I should complain about, because other than that, Tuesdays are pretty good in my books, because, no matter how long or shitty the day at work was (which it wasn't, because I enjoy my job (so far)) or how long the lecture is, and how annoying those 3 kids in class who never shut up are, or how painful the ice pellets falling on my head are, there are always two truly amazing people waiting for me to get back to the apartment.

That's right...

Rick Mercer and Zach Braff.

*sigh*

(WHAT? You didn't think I was going to say Mike and Moses did you? What are you? CRAZY?)

Anyway, one new Mercer report + 2 new Scrubs = a Happy girl.

And speaking of happy girls, I'm going to be one of them again tomorrow upon the arrival of the Polish prince who, for years has been promising to come visit to Ottawa provided I went and visited Hamilton. Well guess what Pawel, I ain't going to Hamilton!! (because it's smelly!) Moohoohahahahhahahaha. I win!! *More evil laughter*

Anyway, I'm pretty exhausted, so I hope this post will hold me over for the next... well, until I think of something clever to say. It's funny how those things become harder to think about when you're working a 9-5 not-so-creative-but-still-mentally-demanding-PublicServantJEORB.

Right. Tah.

Freakin' ICE PELLETS!
