Back on the horse?

The tunnels smelled like Lipton chicken noodle soup yesterday.

This made me a little homesick;
and quite hungry.

I've been inspired to get back on the blog. Or I could be a copycat jerk with no more original thought left of my own.

Meh. I can decide that when I'm not sick and ticked off about thievery.

Motivated?

Motivation is hard to come by.
It is fueled by encouragement,
which is given out
in great quantities
by those who either have a vested interest in your achievement
or by those who share in your lack of motivation.
it is mutually motivational.
Do Passers-by take an interest?
And why would they?
That thought is hardly motivating.

No Legs

Last night I had a bunch of dreams, which probably means I didn't sleep well--probably because I wasn't looking forward to my day o' 2 interviews.

Anyway,

I had a dream I was at work, opening the doors for the sea of Old people who were swarming out of the theatre as I was moving toward it to open the doors and turn on the lights. I went to get the light switch as I lost all control of my legs and lay useless on the ground, unable to stand up or move around... It sucked.

I looked it up and got this out of it:

To dream that you legs are wounded or crippled, signifies a lack of balance, autonomy, or independence in your life. You may be unable or unwilling to stand up for yourself. Perhaps you are lacking courage and refuse to make a stand.

I don't know what it is I need to make a stand about, seems to me I'm always making stands about this or that. Didn't help that later on in the night I dreamed Mike was being a complete ass to me in a hockey arena. I kept having to make him pay attention to me. At the same time, we lost Milton's pet lizard and dog. (He um... doesn't actually own any of these animals, but they both got lose in my dream apparently)

It was fucked.

Ok, more interpretations:

Boyfriend
To see your boyfriend in your dream, represents your waking relationship with him and how you feel about him.

Friend
To see your friends in your dream, signifies aspects of your personality that you have rejected, but are ready to integrate these rejected part of yourself. The relationships you have with those around you are important in learning about yourself. Additionally, this symbol foretells of happy tidings from them and the arrival of good news.

Arena

To see or dream that you are in an arena, indicates that you need to be in an environment where you can freely express yourself. You need a stage or platform for yourself expression. Alternatively, the dream may indicate that there is some issue or problem that needs to be brought into the open.

Lizard
To see a lizard in your dream, signifies your primal instincts and reactions toward sex, food, etc. and your anxieties toward these feelings. The lizard can also be representative of a person who you view as cold-blooded, fearful, or thick-skinned. On a more positive note, the lizard also symbolizes emerging creativity, renewal, and revitalization. It may also suggest that you are well-grounded.

Dog
To see a dog in your dream, indicate a skill that you have ignored or forgotten, but needs to be activated. Alternatively, dogs may symbolize intuition, loyalty, generosity, protection, and fidelity. Your own values and intentions will enable you to go forward in the world and succeed.

Hockey
To dream that you are playing or watching hockey, symbolizes the achieving and protecting of your goals. It suggests that you may be be dealt with a lot of hard blows in your life.

Bertha

I really don't think it's THAT weird to name the giant inanimate objects we work with.

Ethyl and Bertha look great in those far corners, I think.

Hip.

I knew on New Year's Eve, when Mike cashed in at the Fallsview Casino that this was going to be a lucky year for him. Yesterday was no exception.

These tickets for the Hip concert were a gift for Mike's upcoming birthday. Our seats for the concert at Scotiabank Place were really decent. Front row in the stands. Section 117 Row A. Like I said, pretty decent. Not on the ground level, which I would have liked, but still, they were pretty much the next best thing - they were better, even, than a big portion of the floor seats, anyway.

So we were sitting there, kinda buzzed, waiting for the Hip to begin their set after the Constantines finished up with theirs. Literally seconds before Gord and the gang stepped onto the stage this random guy walks up to Mike, hands him these tickets and says: "Here man, tickets for you and the lady."

So the screams commence as the Hip open with their newest hit, while Mike and I scrounge though our shit to find our cell phones, tryin' to check to see if these tickets were legit, and better yet, if they were closer to the stage than ours.

Were they ever.

This random guy had given Mike two tickets for ground seats, 6th row from the Stage. Seriously, fuckin' awesome seats. The guy who gave us the tickets was still at his seat with his group of friends or whatever just rockin' out, while the lady tries to figure out what the hell is going on and why the row seems so full. But whatever, two kids get kicked out; a guy for smoking and a girl for standing on the seat, while Mike and I take it easy and enjoy the rest of the show from these phenomenal seats.

It was f*@#in' AWESOME!

Cheers to whoever came up with the ol' "sneak your friends into the movie theatre" trick. Cuz it paid off for us yesterday!

Thanks, random guy who gave us your awesomely more expensive than our tickets!

And way to go Mike for being a good luck charm.

What a great night!!

For anyone who cares, this was the set list. We got to our new-awesome-tastic seats probably right as they started Grace, Too.

01: The Lonely End of the Rink
02: New Orleans is Sinking
03: Grace, Too
04: Bobcaygeon
05: Family Band
06: Ahead By A Century
07: In View
08: Poets
09: Fiddler’s Green
10: World Container
11: Springtime in Vienna
12: At the Hundredth Meridian
13: Long Time Running
14: The Kids Don’t Get It
15: Fully Completely
16: Wheat Kings
17: Yer Not The Ocean
18: 3 Pistols
19: Blow at High Dough

Encore
20: The Drop-Off
21: COVER: “Like A Rolling Stone” by Bob Dylan
22: Little Bones

What a great show!

<--- Pic taken w/ Mike's camera phone. My stupid camera ran out of batteries. Still, pretty sweet pic for a camera phone.

Note the proximity to the stage. When one considers where we were supposed to sit, this is significantly more cool and exciting.

AWESOME!

Work-Related Sleep Disorders

I woke up in the middle of the night
to get a glass of water,
When I tried to get back to sleep,
all I could think about was
Political Party Press Releases,
Narrating my difficulties sleeping.

Though temporarily frustrating,
this proved more effective
than counting sheep.

An Open Letter to the Television Program LOST

Dear LOST,

I am writing to inform you that I am physically unable to wait for February for you to return to me. Without you, where will I find my daily dose of really crazy, inexplicably fucked up shit? (Seriouly, polar bears.. giant black smoke fists..what else do you call that?)

I am writing to inform you that you will be replaced as my main televised addiction by the mightly Scrubs as of November 30th, but and even though I do share a love for this program, there will be times when my frustration will shine through and fear not... I will curse the amount of days until you return safe and sound to that glowing box responsible for many a killed brain cells and future requirements of laser eye surgery.

I beg of you, please come back to us soon.

Sincerely,

Oh man, I need to get out more.

Abuse

So, funny story.

The other day at work, this guy who didn't have a ticket tried to use the bathroom. I told him he couldn't use it. After a few more shut down attempts to get in to the luxurious facilities that Empire Theatres provides the fourth floor of the Rideau Centre... he stormed off calling me a bitch, then he called me a "fucking jew".

It was a good start to my shift.

... and still I fail to see the connection between the Jews and not allowing someone to use the can.

oh well.

Rats!

What with the infestation on the terrace at the Rideau Centre, I thought it'd be appropriate to inform everyone that Flushed Away was a SPLENDID movie. It was, in fact, almost too cute! I almost want to rescue a few slugs and keep them as pets just for some occasional background music.

(This pic is from when Hugh Jackman realizes that wasn't rice he was cooking with... and the slugs are telling him what the rice really was. Again, so funny, and too cute.) Look at those cute little SLUGS!!!!!

More good news about movies. I found out Rideau's getting Borat on Friday. Which means that a) we're gonna have a screening for employees: (Flippin' SWEET!) and b) we're gonna be stupidly busy over the weekend, but it'll be well worth it!

BORAAAAAAATTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

a thought

A customer from the movie theatre today helped me move my ladder after his show was over. I told him it wasn't necessary, but he insisted.

I guess there still is a bit of good left in people.

Friday the 13th: A Different kind of spooky

So, I guess I've been blogging for over a year now, and I think I should get some sort of blogger-anniversary gift for using their free blog-service. Or maybe not.

Friday the 13th could have been cool this year, but instead I had to spend it at a baseball banquet with a bunch of people who spent most of the season ignoring me. Female MVP this year went to the girl with the most strike-outs. Sounds about right. And after the loud Dance Mix '96 CD was about half way through, right before the karaoke, but just at about the time when the party began to feel like an awkward family gathering with drunken older relatives, we left the hall with enough time to salvage a couple episodes of Scrubs Season 4, which came out to DVD a short while ago.

I re-organized my bedroom a while ago. There's surprisingly a lot more room than I would have figured in this tiny little place. Now the big question being raised is how I'm going to un-staple my posters off the wall to make them look good with the moved-furniture and whatnot.

I'm working like mad at the cinema lately and putting in my 6 hours of work from home with the University. Right about now, the only thing relatively exciting I've got going is the prospect of a good party on Halloween night. Costume came in the mail last week, so now I've just got to figure out ways to style my hair and find out when and where the next Star Trek convention's taking place. Awesome.

Well that's my update.

Sticky Buns

I can't believe it's already October. What the hell happened to the summer? It's getting cold, and I've got to say that I am definitely not looking forward to another Ottawa winter.
I turned down a kegger tonight to watch Annie Hall and When Harry Met Sally. I don't know if that's sad or not. It is what it is. Now I don't have to worry about whether or not the Ottawa Film Society allows us to screen their films for the cinema employers because it's the only one I really wanted to see that I hadn't already seen.
Work at the cinema was shit today. I left home in a bad mood because I couldn't find my keys and when I got to the mall, everyone there seemed a couple degrees more stupid than usual. Must be because it was Saturday. It seems to me though, that you don't leave your crying child at the bottom of the most busy escalator in the Rideau Centre because he's too much of a whoosie to get on the damn thing. ESPECIALLY not when there's a line up of dozens of people expecting to get on the damn thing. Some people really shouldn't procreate. This kid's parents are a prime example. Anyway, then I got harped on for still being bitter about this shitty gift I got at our cinema's secret Santa last Christmas. Well EXCUSE me if I thought that people there knew me a bit better than to stock up on shit they bought at the Dollar Store moments before the exchange. How thoughtful! I guess I know what to expect now and plan on not participating this year if we hold another Secret Santa.
Selfishness (Def'n): Manager tells you about a cool new movie poster that you'd be interested in. While overhearing the news about this poster, co-worker sneaks away from listening in and signs up as having dibbs on the poster as soon as it becomes available to bring home before you have the opportunity to because you're still in mid-conversation with the person telling you about it.
Really makes me think about why I'm still working there...
oh wait...
yeah, Jackass 2 was hillarious when I saw it yesterdayand ... yeah,I saw it for free.
and... the Last Kiss, which I saw 3 times so far.. Wouldn't have been able to do that if I didn't work here...
I guess that answers that question.
I put some pics up on my MSN spaces from when Paul Brown and Curtis came to visit a few weeks back. Paul's in Ottawa today and I'd invited him to that kegger, but alas, Woodly Allen and Billy Crystal won tonight. Here's a glimpse at the pictures I put up:
oh well, nevermind... looks like the photo uploading doesn't want to work tonight. Surprise surprise... freaking blogger.

Jack, Zach and Fox

Going to keep it simple this time around.

THE RACONTEURS were absolutely amazing last weekend. That and the proximity to Jack White has kept me alive all week, even during the most difficult hours of watching Harper win the election over and over again on old episodes of CBC's the National.

on that note... the new job is going well

ZACH BRAFF blew me away in The Last Kiss, a film I'll probably appreciate more in about 5 to 10 years when I actually go through the whole quarter-life crisis thing. Except for the loud-mouthed douchebags who didn't shut up throughout the entire movie (that's right, girls who were sitting behind me at the World Exchange at Friday's 4:00 showing.. I called you douchebags... I'm the one who couldn't take you so I had to change seats...douchebags!!!!)

Anyway, aside from that it was amazing. Everyone should see it! EVERYONE. E-ver-y-one....uh...Except maybe my parents.

ANYWAY. Trust the Man was good, minus the cheesy "boy wins back the girl x 2" formula. Nothing like seeing 2 relationship crisis movies to put you in a confident mood about the future! :P

ALSO, Paul and Curtis came up this weekend. Fabulous evening gentlemen, and a big thanks to all who came out. If I said anything at all that was either ridiculous or offensive, or a combination of the both, please write it off as "another one of Brie's drunken blunders"

Yesterday was a great day, which I've labeled as "OFFICIAL HANGOVER SLEEP-OFF DAY." Next time Curtis should remember to bring th IV so we don't have to worry about the headaches and sick roommates.

Sad to see this weekend wrap up.

Not busy enough?

So, I know I ususally spend most of my time on this thing complaining about how I'm always too busy to write, well, lately, I don't know why I've not been writing, because I've not been busy... AT ALL.. In fact, I'm kindof bored.

I suppose that'll go away soon because I officially start my new job on Monday as a Research Assistant at the University of Ottawa and tomorrow I'm taking a brief trip to Toronto to re-unite, at least, in the line of sight, with Jack White... lovely.

I had my first ride on a Harley the other day, and let me tell you, it was fun!! I wish I had some form of motorcycle... despite the lack of practicality.. especially in Ottawa, in its' half-a-year-of-winter-ness. But whatever, it was fun and very liberating.. despite the fact that I wasn't driving it, and it felt really good after two softball victories, following a not-so-impressive season altogether.

But the future brings forth good things, by the look of it, and soon, I'll be complaining about being too busy again soon, which, oddly enough, I seem to be looking forward to.

The blur that was August

So, last time I blogged, it was the beginning of August and I was glad to be rid of school finally. Now the days have gone passed in a blur because I've been attempting somewhat of a summer to make up for the fact that I'd been couped up inside a classroom or an office for the first three months of it. Here's a brief summary of what I've been up to not so much for those of you who read this and care, but moreso for myself, so that when the next couple months pass by, and I think to myself: "What the hell did I do in August?," I'll know.

Places I've been:

CAMPING

I went camping shortly after my last post, with my roomie, his sister's family and their friends. I don't really remember the name of the place where we went camping, Black Lake, maybe, but anyway, I do know it was good to get out of the city and get some serious outdoors-time in the middle of nowhere. Of course I was eaten alive by mosquitoes, but the hiking, swimming and campfires were well worth it.

I was pretty chilly by the looks of this pic. Anyway, that's us on the lake near our campsite.

WORK?!

I finished my contract with the government on the 17th and I was glad to be rid of it, to be quite honest. They had me doing the most tedious "work," I seriously considered gouging my eyes out as a means to get out of it. Then I remembered that the amount of money they were paying me was keeping me alive and out of debt, so I went to every shift, even though I felt a tiny piece of my soul leave me every day I went in. BUT ANYWAY.

LYNX GAMES

Mike and I went to a couple Ottawa Lynx games. After one of them, we stayed around for an attempt to break the record of most amount of people in one place to do The Twist for the longest amount of time. We didn't succeed, but it was fun twisting anyway.

http://club.minorleaguebaseball.com/app/news/article.jsp?ymd=20060818&content_id=119891&vkey=news_t501&fext=.jsp&sid=t501

I received good news shortly after that that Bachodude was coming to Ottawa to bring his sister to some job interviewy thing, and so when they were here, we took them to see another Lynx game in exchange for a ride back home to Niagara the following day.

SANDUSKY, OH

After being home for not even a couple days, Mike's fam and I took off to Ohio, for a couple days of fun, sun and... FREAKING AWESOME ROLLER COASTERS... Now, I HAVE been to Cedar Point before, several times so to be able to stay in the park for like, 4 days was pretty awesome, especially for a roller coaster enthusiast such as myself. First night we were there, Mike and I hit the park for a couple hours in the evening. We had Subway for dinner, which, for some reason, didn't taste as good in the States as it usually does here in Canada. Weird. Anyway, our hotel had a pool so, we went swimming that evening which, despite the bugs in the pool, was quite enjoyable.

The next day we hit the park... and meant business. First ride of the day for me was the Top Thrill Dragster. Though Mike did wait in line with me to go on, he didn't actually get on the ride. Alone in my cart, one of the ride operator's asked if I'd rather sit in the front row as there was an empty spot up there. Lucky day... or WHAT? WHO CARES? Front row of the Dragster was freakin AMAZING. The rest of the day we went about trying to hit as many rides as possible. Though Mike didn't go on the Dragster, I did manage to get him on Millenium Force, which is probably the best roller coaster EVER. We even got Mike's mum on a couple roller coasters, and she got us to go on one of those white water get soaked rides. Anyway, the whole day was a lot of fun and the park wasn't TOO busy. The next day was spent mostly at the water park, which was fun, b ut for some reason I couldn't really get into it that much. I think it's because when I'm at Cedar Point, my priorities rest on the track of a roller coaster, and not on the water slides. Who knows... after the park, we drove around Sandusky for a bit, found a movie theater, which we decided not to go to, and went to Best Buy to FINALLY get Animaniacs on DVD...

The last day we were there, we decided to hit the park once again, to do over the rides we really enjoyed and to basically get the most out of the park before we went back home. It was Good times, all around.

NIAGARA/BUFFALO

Being home is always fun. I caught up on a lot of season 4 Scrubs with Pam because I haven't seen most of that season, and she has them all on her PC. We made a mandatory trip to Buffalo to Casa di Pizza as it's our fave restaurant. Then we watched more and more Scrubs... Can't wait for that season to come out on DVD.

Anyway, when I was home we were lucky enough to get in touch with Rena, who offered us a ride back to Ottawa the following day and whom had many stories to tell about her own summer.

BACK TO OTTAWA

Tammy came up to Ottawa with us, and we did some of the touristy things that I'm rarely able to do in Ottawa on account of the fact that I'm always working. We hit up the museum of Civilisations, saw a special exhibit there and went to the Imax. We went to the movies and out for dinner. She tried Shawarma. Went to the War museum, saw the Parliament kitties, went to Lush, the market and Sparks St. for a couple days jam-packed with lot's o stuff to do. We also made Sangria one night with our delicious Niagara wine.

MOVIES

Over the past month, I've seen the following:

BeerFest with Mike, The Illusionist with Tammy, Little Miss Sunshine with Mike in St. Cts, where they no longer give refills on the larges... bastards...and... probably some more that I don't remember.... but whatever. I'm sick of typing now, and that pretty much sums up August... that and annoying softball games. But ladeeda... Welcome to September...

DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Holy Shit.

Today, (well, actually yesterday, I typed this up last night, but then blogger was down or not working or I was impatient or something... anyway...) I've finally completed my third year of university, and not a moment too soon. Any longer and I probably would have shot myself in the foot to get out of class.

Anyway, the folks are here for the weekend and the sis., so it's been good times. Went to St. Hubert for the first time ever to see Bon Cop Bad Cop, which was hillarious. Except the non-french boys might have had a bit of time understanding half the movie that wasn't subtitled. Guess they'll have to see it again when it's released in Ontario. Anyway, flick was awesome. I highly recommend it, more particularly if you share some understanding of the Quebec/Ontario squabbles. If you're from Ottawa, I'm definitely sure you know what it's all about.

Talladega Nights was pretty hillarious as well. Nothing like Anchorman's rank on the scale of hillarity, but still pretty good. Maybe if I had had the slightest interest in car racing, I migth have enjoyed it a bit more... However... Ali G did a pretty awesome job, and the trailers for upcoming flicks gave much to look forward to in the Fall and Winter and as such, I guess I'm tied to the cinema and my ticket-slaving for at least another little while.

Saw V for Vendetta again with the sis. today, and despite my extreme fatigue from a long day and the stress of handing in my last essay until next winter, it was still awesome! I can't get over that last fight scene, it blows my mind. Those brothers can make some pretty amazing computer generated ass-kicking.

Anyway, looking forward to a picnic during the day and a hopefully enjoyable and not burdensome baseball game tomorrow night. But most of all, enjoying the fact that I won't be back in class for at least another four months.

THANK YOU LORD BABY JESUS!!!

HAHAHA
